Miranda Straubel, a first-year student at Duke University and a graduate of Northern High School will be on campus Monday Jan. 17 at lunch to share information about the Duke WISER Student Organization. WISER is an international NGO that supports girls in Muhuru Bay, Kenya by providing them with a safe environment to learn and become empowered women (www.wisergirls.org).
At WISER Duke, They strive to instill the same principles of the importance of women’s education and empowerment to the young women of the Triangle. They are recruiting girls from VAHS to the annual LeadWISER Conference. Young women at LeadWISER will hear from several prominent women on campus and participate in activities that will promote women’s empowerment, offering these girls important skills to be successful in high school, college, and beyond.
