How Multiyear Scholarships Can Help Pay Your Teen's Way Through College

Extra Help: College Admissions

Helping parents get their teen to college

CHECK IN

Earn Scholarships for All Four Years of College

Earning a scholarship can be a proud moment for students and parents alike. But oftentimes scholarships are for only one year, which means students will have to apply for other awards or possibly rely on student loans in subsequent years.

Instead, multiyear scholarships can provide consistency for students throughout their college journey. These awards can help families plan out how they'll pay for college and offer more financial stability. Learn more about scholarships that pay for all four years of college and how to find them. Also be sure to check out the various opportunities in the U.S. News Scholarship Finder.

This is a bonus edition of Extra Help, one of several that U.S. News will be sending out this year. Feel free to share your thoughts and feedback with us at edunewsletters@usnews.com.

Happy Tuesday!

CASH IN ON COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS

Need help with the scholarship search or strategy? Check out these tips on winning scholarships, with pointers on how to get started and different types of scholarships to aim for.

Being a standout athlete isn't the only way your teen could earn scholarship money for extracurricular activities. Read on to learn how dance, photography and other creative pursuits can pay off.

If a scholarship sounds too good to be true, then it just may be a scam. Pay attention to red flags such as eligibility fees and notifications saying your teen was awarded a scholarship for which he or she never applied.

If your teen wins a scholarship, then common courtesy suggests a thank-you letter is in order – and experts say doing so could lead to recommendation letters and future awards. Here's a template that covers the basics of showing gratitude to the awarding organization.
