ECU Admission Events

The College of Arts & Sciences at East Carolina University is hosting  4 admissions events to for high school Juniors/Seniors.  These are great events to help students who are interested in certain areas/career paths, but may be unsure as to what major they want to pursue. They will host 4 academic days with different themes as indicated below.   Students must register through Admissions (links provided below) to attend.  Space is limited!

 

  • Wed, October 13 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm   Environment, Natural Resources, & sustainability
    • The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, the largest one at ECU, is named for the explorer Thomas Harriot. Harriot was an expert in many of the subjects that our faculty are experts in, too, like Geography, Geology, Physics, and Math.  No matter what major you choose in Harriot College, you’ll be ready to make a major difference in the world when you graduate from ECU. We offer so many ways to create solutions to help our environment, preserve our natural resources, and promote sustainability.  Major in biology and become an ecologist who can protect our earth’s biodiversity…Or, major in community and regional planning so you can design sustainable cities… major in environmental studies to focus on the social, political, economic, and cultural aspects of the environment.  Major in Economic to learn the practices that support long-term economic growth without negatively impacting social, environmental, and cultural aspects of the community. How will your major decision help you make a major difference?  Come find out more at our session.  You can also visit us at https://thcas.ecu.edu/

    • The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, the largest one at ECU, is named for the explorer Thomas Harriot. Harriot was an expert in many of the subjects that our faculty are experts in, too, like English, Foreign Languages, Geography, and History.  No matter what major you choose in Harriot College, you’ll be ready to make a major difference in the world when you graduate from ECU.  Major in Foreign Languages and Literatures to understand globally shared issues confronting the world today…Major in Political Science to examine the cultural context of world governments…Major in English to study the literature, film and pop culture that move us.  *With majors and minors in our college, you improve your communication skills—writing and speaking, but also visual design, digital communication, and collaboration—and your awareness of how people understand each other within and across cultures.  How will your major decision help you make a major difference?  Come find out more at our session.  You can also visit us at https://thcas.ecu.edu/

    • The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, the largest one at ECU, is named for the explorer Thomas Harriot, who was an expert in many of the subjects that our faculty are experts in, too. Harriot College has over 25 different majors to choose from so no matter what major you choose in Harriot College, you’ll be ready to make a major difference in the world when you graduate from ECU.  We offer so many ways to challenge yourself to understand issues and policies surrounding social justice and diversity.  Major in anthropology to explore how and why societies have varied customs and ideas…major in African and African American Studies to understand the generations-long struggle for equity and accountability.  Major in sociology and learn more about protest movements that bring about real change. Major in criminal justice to explore how social injustices impact law enforcement, juvenile delinquency, and our jail system. Harriot was an expert in many of the subjects that our faculty are experts in too, like Science and Math.  No matter what major you choose in Harriot College, you’ll be ready to make a major difference in the world when you graduate from ECU. We offer so many ways to explore, research and discover how to change the face of technology and medicine.  Major in Chemistry to get down to the molecular level of how our bodies can fight off diseases.  Major in Neuroscience to bridge the laboratory and the clinic.  Major in Philosophy or Religious Studies to bridge the cultural gap when working with patients from various religious backgrounds.  Major in Psychology for a deeper understanding of human behavior. Tentative Schedule of Events

9:30 am Check in

10:00 am campus tour (lasts 90 minutes)

12:00 pm lunch on your own

1:00-1:30 pm THCAS welcome & overview of majors by Dr. Derek Maher (Chair of Philosophy & Religious Studies department)

1:45 pm attend Theme Session led by various faculty members of the College of Arts & Sciences
