Clemson’s Challenge for Academically Talented Students (C-CATS) recruits top students from SC, NC and GA to participate in high-powered weekend retreats. Through team-building and academic sessions, students gain leadership skills, make lasting friendships, and improve their ability to think clearly and perform under pressure, all while having the time of their lives!

C-CATS, Clemson’s Challenge for Academically Talented Students, is a program designed for

high-achieving 9th and 10th grade students. C-CATS introduces top-ranking students to Clemson University through exciting weekend adventures that engage them in the academic, social, and recreational opportunities offered at Clemson. Over 4,500 students have participated in this program over the last decade.

The Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program allows students to:

• Explore career pathways or fields of study

• Make friends with like-minded peers

STEM Opportunity for 9th graders in Detroit

SMASH is a FREE intensive college-prep program for students underrepresented in STEM. We are committed to eliminating the barriers faced by these students and helping prepare them for STEM degrees and careers. Students are recruited in the 9th grade and participate for 3+ years! Each summer, students will stay on Wayne State's campus for 5-weeks and engage in project-based learning,  getting a taste of the college experience. Throughout the year our scholars continue their learning through workshops held once a month on Saturdays. 

SMASH is currently recruiting students for the third cohort of SMASH Wayne State scholars and would love representation from Voyager Academy!

Who are they looking for? 

We are looking for high-potential 9th-grade students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in STEM! Scholars should have at least a 3.0 GPA (as measured by their 9th grade semester 1 report card or final 8th grade GPA).

Applications are accepted until l February 28th, however the application process is competitive!

Summer Enrichment: Gettysburg College

Gettysburg College is excited to offer several opportunities for high school juniors and sophomores to attend academic camps over the summer months. Subjects include psychology, history, creative writing, piano, or information technology. Please find information to share with your students about our academic camps below: 

• Camp Psych - Campers will get hands-on experiences that introduce them to research in psychology during this fun, challenging, and engaging introduction to the field.
• Sunderman Piano Institute - Pianists 12-17 years old who desire to improve their performance skills, collaborate with other pianists, and dive deeply into related music subjects of their choice. Pianists will have opportunities to perform in daily studio class, and the final Friday concert will showcase pianists in both solo and ensemble works.
• Writing Camp - Students gain an in-depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen.
• 3D Object Modeling and Printing Camp - Students will study 3D object modeling and printing starting with the basics of a 3D printer. After learning the fundamentals, they will practice designing objects.
• Coding for Robotics & Electronics Camp - Students will gain hands-on experiences in coding, wiring, hardware, and building robots through the open source software known as Arduino. Throughout this camp, campers will learn basic electrical engineering, the physics behind electricity, and how to think like a scientist.
• Civil War Institute Summer Conference - The High School Student Scholarship component of Gettysburg College's annual Civil War Institute summer conference provides high school students an opportunity to explore the history of the Civil War era on the site of the war's most decisive battle.

Junior Leadership Durham (JDL)

Junior Leadership Durham is accepting online applications for Class #15 (2017-2018).  Current ninth graders attending a Durham public, private, home, or charter school may apply.  Application deadline is Friday, March 31, 2017.

Junior Leadership Durham is a nonprofit community-wide program designed to shape the future of high school students by promoting teamwork, developing leadership skills and fostering self-confidence and personal growth.

Through active participation, students interact with business, community and government leaders to gain an in-depth knowledge of Durham and to encourage them to explore ways in which they can contribute to their community.

AME College Fair 3/18/2017

Synergy Training Solutions, LLC is a company that focuses on awareness and advocacy for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). They have created a temporary (designed to create awareness and advocacy for the AME colleges and universities) division that focuses on AME colleges and universities.  As you may know, our AME colleges and universities is seeking to increase enrollment, scholarships, and technology. One major factor that can affect enrollment is the availability of on-going scholarships for students. Our goal is to help aid the AME Institutions with scholarships primarily for its students. 

 

On Saturday, March 18, 2017, all AME institutions will be highlighted at the AME college fair at Saint Matthew AME Church, 629 Bennett Street, Raleigh, NC from 10:00am to 1:00pm.  There will also be an Oldies but Goodies party held Friday, March 17, 2017 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. The “Oldies but Goodies” party tickets are $25.00 (please purchase even if you do not plan to attend) and 80% of the ticket sales will go towards students attending the AME institutions. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
