The Wade Edwards Learning Lab

Students and parents are encouraged to check out the WELL for positive youth development programs.

https://www.wade.org/

What is The WELL?

Our MISSION is to empower the high-school student community by providing opportunities for achievement, enrichment, and service, enabling lifelong academic, professional and personal success.

Each student who walks in our door has his or her own unique needs. We work to engage students within their different social groups (communities, schools, peer groups, families) and to recognize and utilize their existing strengths to help prepare them for the future.

How we help.

The WELL offers various programs designed to create possibilities, expand opportunities, and build skills for the classroom and the workforce. We believe that serving the academic needs of students is not enough. Our focus is on developing the whole student by nurturing their personal and academic growth at the same time.

Programming at the WELL includes activities and evidence based programs that incorporate the theory of positive youth development through intentional, positive approaches that promote positive outcomes for young people.

Certified Nursing Assistant Information and Scholarship Opportunities

Are you looking to enroll in a Certified Nursing Assistant training program?

CNA Free Training" provides free training materials for those preparing to take the CNA exam, which is a requirement in order to become a licensed CNA. We have free practice tests for each section of the CNA exam, as well as supplemental training materials that can be used while taking CNA classes – all of which are free.

"CNA Classes Near Me" helps those interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) find training programs. Many of these programs are free as they are funded by the U.S. Department of Labor or state equivalent agencies. Our site has state by state pages that list out all training locations in a given state as well as their contact information.

·        https://cnafreetraining.com/about-us/cna-free-training-scholarship/

·        https://cnaclassesnearme.com/cna-scholarship/

The amount awarded for both scholarships is $500. The deadline to apply for the CNA Free Training scholarship is April 2 and the CNA Classes Near Me scholarship is on August 21. A little information about both of my websites:

How To Bring More Ease, Joy, and Purpose To Your High School Life

The College Essay Guy...

My goal is to bring more ease, purpose, and joy to the college application process.

Here are some things I hear high schoolers say...

  • “I’m not good at anything.”

  • “I should start a non-profit organization so I’ll stand out on my college application.”

  • “I should know what I want to study (or) I shouldn’t change my mind or else colleges will think I’m wishy-washy.”

  • “My interests are boring/too common.”

  • “College is the only option for me.”

But are these things true?

I want to challenge some of these ideas, or at least have you question them.

And here’s my thesis: I believe that questioning these assumptions can actually bring more ease, joy, and purpose into your life.

In this post, you’ll learn:

  • How to Discover Your Superpowers (in ~20 Minutes)

  • How to Identify a Community Service Project That Matters

  • 5 Reasons Why It Doesn't Matter What You Major In + Two College Application Examples of Students Who Weren’t 100% Sure—and Still Got into Great Colleges

  • What to Do If You Feel Your Interests Are Common or Boring

  • Why You Might Consider the Benefits of Skipping College or Taking a Gap Year

  • A Walk-Through of Two Outstanding College Applications By Students Who Did Some of These Things + What You Can Learn from Them

2021-2022 Common App Essay Prompts

The Common App essay prompts will remain the same for 2021-2022 with one exception. They will retire the seldom used option about solving a problem and replace it with the following:

Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?

The new prompt is inspired by scientific research on gratitude and kindness, specifically the benefits of writing about the positive influence of other people in our lives.

Read more and see all of the Essay Prompts below.

There are no tuition, housing or dining fees for students selected to attend this program.

The AI4All @ Carnegie Mellon program is a three-week residential experience that provides opportunities for students from underrepresented communities to study artificial intelligence with full-time faculty, staff and researchers who are leaders in the field. There are no tuition, housing or dining fees for students selected to attend this program.

The Computer Science Scholars program provides students who are traditionally under-represented in the field of computer science an opportunity to receive exposure to computing and additional computer science pre-requisites.
